Commissioning a mural decoration is much like having a contractor
build a room addition, a deck, or a patio. The great part is that
for a mural decoration it is not necessary to have a "city building
permit" and there are no extra taxes on the property. However,
the value of the building will increase with at least the value of
the commissioned mural.
Similar
to the case of hiring a building contractor, prior knowledge of
the type of work an artist or company does is highly recommended.
Most artists and companies will provide a portfolio with examples
of their accomplishments and can be very flexible in style to accommodate
their work with the surrounding environments.
A
professional interior designer can properly coordinate the artist's
point of view and future projected design decisions such as furniture,
carpet, window treatments, etc. When contracting a mural decoration,
it is also recommended to first try and have the wall treatments
completed.
There
are artists and companies that specialize in a certain style of
decoration. Like buying furniture, once a certain style is picked,
browsing for the proper artist that can create that particular look
is the right thing to do.
Classic
Murals is specialized in Italian and French Neoclassic styles, and
we are happy to recommend independent artists working in other styles
if you are searching for something different. We also have built
successful connections with studios specialized in all types of
different wall treatments such as faux finishes, marbleizing, or
Venetian plaster.
Here
are some more guidelines for a successful collaboration on commissioning
a mural decoration with Classic Murals Gallery & Studios.

In-Home Consultation*
(*for customers within 30 miles distance) |
One
of our qualified professional muralists will come to the client's
home or office to discuss the custom mural project and show the client
how we can fulfill their decorating needs. This initial in-home consultation
is free and we are available any day of the week to set meetings. To draw renderings and provide a written proposal a $250 deposit is required non refundable if proposal not accepted - if proposal accepted this amount is going to be consider against the balance. |
We
will begin with developing any ideas on the design and general concept
of the mural or trompe l'oeil decoration. We welcome any pictures,
photographs, or magazine clippings of specific images we can base
the design on.
|
If unsure where to begin, browse our past mural and decoration projects.
We have put together an impressive number of examples for viewers
to get their inspiration flowing. Each project has several images
and all are complete with descriptions of the work and details such
as cost and time of completion.

|
|
In order to enable us to better match or coordinate the mural with
the existing colors and textures of the room and its contents (i.e.
furniture, current wall colors, artwork, carpet, window treatments),
digital pictures will be taken of the space to be decorated.
|
We
will also take measurements and decide if any architectural changes
or details are required. If so, we can provide referrals to many highly
dependable professional contractors specific to any trade. OUR REFERRAL
SERVICE IS COMPLETELY FREE, but any work completed with our referred
contractors is at an additional cost outside of our fees.
|
Upon
request we can also provide you with INTERIOR
DESIGN SERVICES at no additional charges. A free consultation
with an experienced interior designer that can give professional guidance
and helpful ideas for the custom mural project is highly recommended.

Preparation
Work Begins |
|
Classic Murals schedules all on-site work at least 45 days in advance.
This allows our artists time to incorporate all of the ideas and
design decisions and prepare renderings for the project. These color
renderings show the complete layout and design the custom mural.
There
is no extra charge for your color renderings!
|
|
|
|
The renderings are sent to the client for approval. At this time,
we will make any color changes or revisions in design. The final renderings
will serve as a platform for the entire project and what the artists
will use as a model, thus we work hard to make sure our clients are
completely happy and satisfied with their design BEFORE we begin painting
the artwork.
|
On-Site
Work |
Classic Murals will create the custom mural on any interior or exterior
wall surface. We use acrylic paints with long lasting coatings to
ensure that the unique artwork will endure the elements for years
to come. Paints are not harmful to children and can be washed with
water and light soap.
|
|
|
|
Our artists are meticulous about keeping a clean working environment
during all of our in-house projects. The painting site will never
be damaged and we will try and contain our "no mess" work
area as much as possible.
|
|
|
|
We are happy to reasonably move any furniture or take down wall fixtures
in the area to be painted, but we will ask to have those areas cleared
as much as possible before we are scheduled to begin painting.
|
Our
professional and reliable staff of artists is dedicated to achieving
the highest standards of quality in all of our work. All of our projects
will be completed before or on their estimated deadlines and the artists
will work around the client's schedule and lifestyle.
|
"I
was amazed how professional your artists were and all the great
customer service your entire staff gave me throughout the entire
project. Beyond the beautiful artwork that gets numerous comments,
I can't stop telling all my friends and house-guests what a pleasure
it was doing business with you. Many thanks! "

In-Studio
Work (Canvas Murals) |
Sometimes our clients
prefer to have their custom mural finished on canvas instead of directly
on the surface they wish to decorate. We can accommodate this request
and it is recommended for those not local to Southern California or
for commercial sites. We will prepare the mural on canvas and ship
it to any destination.
